I'm not really sure why it took me so long to review it. i saw it last thursday... or wednesday. one of the two.or was it last last wednesday. God i don't even remember. this review might not be as god as it should have been. anyway uh... so acting wise it was pretty good. nothing exceptional really. Aaron Johnson, Chris Mintz-Plasse, Mark Strong and Chloe Moretz performed well. Nic Cage's performance was funny and very interpretive; i liked it, but not enough to praise him for it. Big Daddy is just plain badass though. that's all i havee to say about that. moving on. Matthew Vaugh did a pretty good job with directing. I didn't know who the director was until rite now when i looked it up, but the style reminded of Zack Snyder, who directed Watchmen and 300, albeit somewhat down-toned. not quite as bloody and sex-filled as Watchmen and 300, but still very bloody and sex-filled. special effects... i don't remember too much about special effects. there was a lot of blood. it all kinda had the same quality as the blood i've seen in Deadliest Warrior on Spike, which means that it wasn't animated quite as well, but it worked and it looked cool. that's all i really remeber. 8/10
Ironman 2:
pure awesomeness. I heard that critics were saying that while it was still good, the first one was better. i would beg to differ. I really don't think that the first movie had nearly as much action (i could be wrong since it's been a while since i've seen the first one; i need to watch it again. I should watch it with cupcake; she needs to see it). Robert Downey Jr. has yet to fail to impress me, and if he keeps going like this he never will. he adds so much character to any part that he plays, and tony stark is no exception. gwyneth paltrow, scarlet johansson, don cheadle, mickey rourke did a good job too--i just don't have much to say about them though XD. I love the fact that John Favreau not only directed the movie but also acted in it. i love his character, however small a part it is. it's a funny part. anyway, he directed well also, and i just found out that he will also be directing The Avengers in 2012, which is just amazing. moving on, special effects were great. a lot of animation and all of it was well done and believable. music was good. i can't remeber to much of the score, but all the rock that tony stark plays all the time was well chosen and sounded good. the story was pretty good, but there was one thing lacking: big part for the main villain. it didn't seem like mickey rourke really did much. (WARNING: POTENTIAL SPOILER ALERT)he came in, made a glowing circle, got a fake passport, burned his shirt off to reveal a metal suit and lightning whips, whipped things, sliced things, beat up ironman, got beat up by ironman, got put in jail, escaped jail, made a deal with Justin hammer, programmed a lot of robots, built a new suit, had the robots attack ironman, attacked ironman and war machine, lost to ironman and war machine, and blew up. He really only had like some fifteen to twenty minutes of camera time. and only like ten minutes of that was he swinging aourn his lightning whips thingies (which were awesome btw). He had acool part and i wish he had more camera time. but other than that, the movie was good. (funny quotes FTW!) 9/10
Babies:
for (pre) Mother's Day, my mom, me and my sis saw Babies, a documentary about--guess what?--what?--babies!--really, i had NO idea. No shit, sherlock. the style is so curious, which works so well for the whole theme of babies. they're so cute. Theirs virtually no dialogue, unless you consider the few words the the parents of the babies say int he background, but none of that is really inmportant, and most of it is not in English. i like that the director, Thomas Balmès, chose not to have (true) dialogue, bcuz it makes you focus on the visual instead of the auditory, the visual here being cute babies, and honestly, who doesn't want to pay attention to that. The whole point of the film is to document the first year of an African baby, a Mongolian baby, and Japanese baby, and an American baby (i think it was the first year; the preview said "one year," but in the film it showed the first birthday party of the little japanese girl, and then continued for another half hour or so. I know that asian birthdays work a little differently though, so that might be the reason why. Has, Keisuke, any comments?). I found it curious how drastically different the life of a baby growing up in what we consider a developed country versus a non developed or not completely developed country is. the parents of the american and the japanese babies were around so much more than in mongolia and africa. in mongolia and africa, the father was never around ( the african father never appeared in the movie at all, and the mongolian father only appeared when his wife gave birth). i found it curious that for the first hal of the movie, the african baby seemed to actually be learning the fastest, which made me question the teaching methods of developed countries. the african baby was using tools and pointing at things and stuff like that, much sooner than the american and japanese babies. the mongloian was somewhere in the middle. however, during the second half or so of the movie, the american and japanese babies, started picking things up rather quickly, and the african baby started getting left behind. i don't think that really mattered for the african baby though, since it wouldn't need to be learning all the complicated crap we need to survive here in the us and other developed countries. THe mongolian baby was kinda in the middle for most of the film, until about were they started learning to crawl and walk. The mongolian was the fastest crawler. the african leanred how to crawl first, and the american and japanese babies learned to crawl last. (if i remeber correctly). however, the american and japanese babies learned to stand and walk first. the mongolian was the last to learn that. idk if anyone else cares bout this but it's very interesting to me. anyway, just something else i noticed was that it had a pg rating for "cultural and maternal nudity throughout." I'm pretty sure the MPAA tends to rate films with nudity in them R. but i guess since it is a european film, a few ("a few" here meaning "a lot") naked babies and breasts won't hurt. i didn't even know it was a foreign film until the i was reading the ending credits in French. anyway, not really my first choice of film, but still really cute. 8/10
